The common failure on fuller bodies is not that the tights do not go on. It is that they go on stretched, which thins the knit at the thigh and makes a 40D pair read like a 20D pair exactly where you did not want it to.

This block is knitted wider through the hip and thigh with a deeper gusset. Worn at its intended stretch, 40D looks like 40D across the whole leg.

Why this costs more than the regular size

Curve styles are knitted with a wider body panel and a deeper gusset on a separate block, not made by stretching the regular block further. They carry more yarn and are made in shorter runs. That is the entire reason for the difference in price.

At 40D the knit is denser than a sheer and resists snagging better, but higher denier resists snagging better. no tights are snag-proof.
