A regular knee-high stretched over a wide calf does two things: it thins the knit where it is stretched most, and it concentrates all of the welt tension into a narrow ring.

This block is knitted wider through the leg with a 6 cm welt at lower tension. It fits calf measurements to 53 cm without either effect.

Why this costs more than the regular size

Knitted on a wider leg block with a longer welt and a different elastic profile, in shorter runs. The difference in price is the difference in the block.
